Georgia Civil Air Patrol Begins Reopening with Stringent Health Precautions

ATLANTA – Civil Air Patrol’s Georgia Wing has transitioned to Phase 1 of the organization’s COVID-19 Remobilization Plan, allowing regularly scheduled in-person meetings to resume for squadrons that meet stringent health and safety precautions. Approved units may return to in-person meetings as long as groups contain 10 people or less. As of September 3, 18 of the wing’s 43 units have received approval to Phase 1.

In order to receive approval, these units have to ensure that leadership cleans and disinfects the workspace prior to each meeting. They must also perform verbal health checks on any person(s) arriving at a meeting, along with a temperature check. Temperatures in excess of 100.4 degrees (the CDC’s definition of a fever) will prevent a person from entering a meeting. Everyone attending a meeting will be required to wear a face mask and follow social distancing standards at all times.

Safety is the first priority of Civil Air Patrol (CAP) and our wing leadership is watching the situation very closely, following local ordinances and guidelines, as well as the official numbers from the State of Georgia. If the COVID situation deteriorates in any areas of the state where CAP has units, those unit commanders and our wing leadership will re-assess, and if needed, return to online-only meetings.
